About South Dakota Setters

Our Story

We are a family-owned and operated breeder that has been in the business for over 20 years. Starting out as Shadow Mountain Labs in 2000. With multiple national champion dogs. Then our passion for Setters started when we got our first setter and fell in love with their natural hunting instinct, loyalty, and friendly nature. Since then, we have been dedicated to breeding healthy and happy setters for families to enjoy.

Our Breeding Process

We take great pride in our breeding process, which starts with carefully selecting our breeding pairs. We only breed setters that meet our high standards for health, temperament, and conformation. Our setters are raised in a loving and nurturing environment and receive regular veterinary care and socialization.

Our Facilities

We have a state-of-the-art facility that is designed to provide our setters with the best possible care. Our kennels are spacious and comfortable, and our play areas are designed to provide plenty of exercise and socialization opportunities.

    Riggs

Urko is a young four month old chocolate male we imported from Spain. Urko is from a line of champion dogs from Italy that were born in Spain. However his father is Woodcock Champion of Spain. We were immediately fond of his chocolate coloring and international pedigree. Having found his demeanor and his ability in the field is just as good as he looks. The "Chocolate Kid" is the all around setter with incredible nose in the field winding birds from over 50 yards away. We hope to get Urko in some puppy stakes this spring.

Riggs is a Ryman line setter with a great mix with October line and Good Going kennels. With this being his first season being a year and half, he is a machine. Living up to his nick name "Big Rigg" if there is a bird around he's going to find it. He is a true lover at home and he enjoys watching shows with his dad.

Brouczesky is another dog we imported from the Czech Republic, as a long line of field champions in his pedigree. He's from Parc Des Chaumes lines crossed with Del Zagnis. Nolo Del Zagnis is his grandpa and was the number one gun dog in Europe. He futures those same traits as his grandpa with his big runs and gorgeous points, he's the true

Marcus is from Serbia, is from Forever Green Fields Oreo, a bench and field champion. Marcus has his JR Serbian show title already. Don't let this handsome guy fool ya, he's the ultimate bird finding machine. The "Serbian Prince" is one to be reckoned with, he owns the field.

    Valentine

Valentine was bought from John Smith out of southern Wisconsin, who has a long line of field dogs. Valentine is exactly like her name, she's a true love. That is a bird hunting machine. She runs super large and has a beautiful point with her tail curled up the back.
